Writing Wednesday: Summer Love
On Monday, we read Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18 and learned that sonnets are often about love.
Today, we want you to imagine someone or something that you love.
Then, choose one of the following two writing activities! (Or both!)
Activity One: Write a Letter
Take some time today to write a letter to someone or something that you love. It may be someone that lives with you or nearby, or it could be someone that lives far away. It could be your favorite place or even your favorite piece of pizza that you had for dinner last night. Be creative!
You can write a physical letter with pen and paper, or you can even write an email.
Activity Two: Write a Sonnet
On Monday, we learned that English sonnets have 14 lines and follow a specific rhyme scheme (abab cdcd efef gg) with three quatrains and one couplet. There is usually an interesting twist between the quatrains and the couplet, and the couplet either provides a resolution or a twist!
Try writing a love sonnet about someone or something you love. Use strong imagery! If you can’t think of how to start, take a page from Shakespeare’s book and compare what you love to something else. (That type of comparison is called a simile, and it is an awesome way to include imagery!)
When you’ve finished your letter or sonnet, post it in the comments here or on Facebook or send it to us at hornpondreview@gmail.com!
